Her jobbes det tydeligvis bra!

Skui:

Veldig god balanse i gruppene.  Stilsikkert!

Cossack: Veldig bra start.

Filadelfia hornorkester:

Make his prace: Fin start. Liker tempo. Litt uryddig I kornetter/horn.

Overganger litt uklare og udefinert i rit/dim. Klangen noen ganger litt skarp og intonasjonen lider. Bra avslutning!

Blaydon Races: Starter bra her også! Herlig solist! Korps følger godt opp her. Pass opp intonasjon/klang kornetter. Igjen blir overganger uklare…

Veldig bra solist, korps komper bra!

Valdres brass:

Milestone: Relativt bra start!

Liker bakrekka her. Litt ujevnt…

On my own: Liker arret, og solisten behersker dette. Kompet følger stort sett godt opp, men intonasjonen lider stedvis. Fin solist!

Ruby Tuesday: Fin musisering her!

Salen hornorkester

Festival March: Ryddig dette her! Litt ute av synk i svake partier. Låter bra, men personlig kunne jeg ønske meg enn noe mørkere klang. Men som sagt veldig bra!

On with the Motley: Starter med relativt dårlig intonasjon i orkesteret. Solisten overbeviser straks!

O take my hand: Flott principal!

Valero: Solid her også! Bra slagverker!

Trumpet blues and cantabile: Tøft!

Rong Brass

Unisons: Det låter like kult og funky i alle styrkegrader.

Skui Brassband

Fin euphonium solo! Her viser dere et godt samspill!

Filadelfia Hornorkester Drammen

Make his Praise Glorious: Savner litt tydeligere artikulasjon i hele bandet, åpningen låter lift flatt.

Solist spiller veldig godt gjennom hele stykket. Flott!

Valdres Brass

Milestone: Savner litt mer trøkk i begynnelsen hos kornetter. Det hele blir mer overbevisende utover i låta. Dere får fram flere linjer i musikken.

On my Own: Flott at du spiller utenat. Bravo!

Ruby tuesday: Her spiller dere tight. Flott esskornettspill.

On with the Motley: Veldig godt akkompagnert av bandet og fantastisk spill av esskornett solist!

O take my Hand: Vakker kornettsolo i begynnelsen.

Oklahoma

A solid start, and immediately are into a real broadway feel. This moves along nicely, plenty of character. I feel the dynamic contrasts could be slightly greater. Nice trombone glisses. Nice effort in the the double tonguing horns. a bit more air through the phrase would have been nice. A tight ending! Enjoyable.

Chiapenecas

Not a really precise start. And I feel the band is somewhat loud at times. The soloist is confident, and captures the style extremely well. I feel that band could be a little better at playing in the same style (mariachi maybe?) . In the really fast section, the band is way too loud for my taste.

Impressive soloist!! Well done.

Lil´Darlin

Now I have to thank you for this tempo! Too many times I have heard this played too fast. However, with this great tempo comes great responsibility! We are not 100% together in the last two quarter notes of each bar in the opening motif.

The solo is classy. The sound absolutely fits this setting. very well done. Again we are not together in the last two quarter notes. If this was correct, then I would be a very happy man.

I like the bands use of vibrato in this piece. Lovely end.

Trumpet Blues

From cool jazz, to big band sounds. Well done cornets at the beginning. I feel that the band is too loud, however. The cornets would be better stood up pointing out maybe? I lose some of the lower harmonies in the cornets.

The tempo allows the music to breathe, and flows nicely.

Good attempt solo cornet. I feel that you could have used more air to really make the melody sail a bit more, and some wider vibrato would have been acceptable in this setting I feel.

Just be careful of being a bit more tidy at the end, note lengths etc.

Thank you. I enjoyed your performance. Some good style, well thought out tempos. Great soloists.

14.45 Rong Brass

Unisons

This is groovy! Lovely details in the phrasing. Horns you were great in your first exposition, but a bit weaker in your second. The 16ths are flowing nicely, Band is together, and the kit player makes a great contribution to this.

Plenty of drive here, there is the odd split in the tutti licks, but the accents are well placed.

I would like to hear more from tuned percussion. You seem to be doing a good job!

That was well played. More than a couple of splits though, didnt detract too much however.

Move Their Mind

This impressive euphonium playing! Basses I am not sure you are 100% confident in your opening segment.

Band is maybe slightly loud at times.

The build up is captivating. Band, can the 16th notes be clearer?

Overall, that was pretty damn good! Soloist exceptional.

Chiquilin de Bachin

Some lovely reflective sounds here. Nice cornet and flugel soloists. Basses, I am sorry but maybe a little bit over indulgent at times. Horn solo, I would love to hear more of you, it was nicely played, but a bit timid for me.

Be careful that the louder dynamics dont become to screechy, especially in cornets.

The appasionato (if it says that?) Is exactly that. Horn, I can hear you more now, and its nice.

Intonation is not 100% all the time within the band.

Overall, lovely!

Farvel til en slavisk kvinne

What a choir you have! I feel very baltic all of a sudden. Solo trombone, do you know the words??

This has a very slavik feel, the accompaniment in lower cornets is very well done, in terms of placement and articulation. Same goes for horns when accompanying the choir.

Be careful again in louder dynamics, that intonation doesnt suffer.

The tempo is consistent throughout, with nice little changes to add character.

Overall performance. You guys love playing, and you had fun. This comes across in your performance. Fantastic euphonium soloist. someone buy her a cola! I enjoyed it very much. Thank you (solo trombone, learn the words!)

Sing Sing Sing

The opening percussion rhythm is not sitting well with me, but when the band enters all is well again! This has a nice two in a bar feel. I find myself dancing along!

Trombone, a real sassy and classy solo! And well done trombone section afterward.

Basses, it is a nice walking bass line, but more pizzicato effect would be nice.

The 2nd drum solo is much more appealing.

Cornets more vib in your feature, it really wants it!!

The tempo is good, but I feel the band may want to push just a little bit towards the end. Hold it steady!

Overall a good account. Toe tapping stuff!

Under The Boardwalk

A good start basses. Flugel, a good attempt, but some minor errors. However you recovered well. Nice coordinated hand movements from the band!

Nice cornet duet! Flugel you can afford to play a bit louder when you have the full band behind you.

Overall, I feel that this was not your best performance of this. But well attempted.

Cossack Wedding Dance

This has a nice flow, and certainly captures the Russian feel. The solos are good, and the filigri 16th notes are well rehearsed.

Basses may be rushing slightly in between cornet interjections?

Lovlely euphonium solo. Horns, can you make more of the crescendo, and stop together?

Nice accel. Trombones, dont get too brassy!

Nice work horns in your feature.

Listen to your intonation and the band gets louder and more energised. And I feel that you could have made more of the ending.

Overall performance. Some good playing here, (special mention to your trombone and euphonium baritone section) and a varied program. Some things didnt quite come off today, but nonetheless I enjoyed it. Thank you.

Filadelfia Hornorkester

Make His Praise Glorious

An energetic start, I do not hear the melody line in the opening exposition of the hymn. Intonation is not 100% in the louder dynamics.

Horns, I would love to hear you more soloistically, listen to your G#´s.

You tackle the time changes very well.

Again horns, you play well, but I would love you to play with more power and passion!

I think more could be made of dymanic contracts, especially at the lower end of the scale. I feel your lowest point here was MF.

Some very energetic playing here, and you try to put over excitement. A bit more togetherness, more dynamic contrast, this would have been excellent.

Blaydon Races

Euphonium, what a lovely sound you have! Very traditional (and British, which I love!! ) Band, be careful with placement of your notes, I feel we are not completely «in the pocket» of the pulse. And be sure you do not make the soloist have to strain himself to be heard.

Slow section, intonation and togetherness an issue again. And the band is WAY too loud here. I want to hear more of the euphonium rather than long notes.

Reprise, Im sorry but the band is just not tight enough, and on the heavy side.

Tutti section, yes you can play loud here! But you need to come down again. A nice close from the soloist.

Well done soloist. Very nicely done.

Motivation

High energy again here! There now seems to be a slightly more dymanic contrast. Intonation gets a little shaky in the louder dymanics (maybe through overblowing). I struggle to hear 2nd and 3rd cornets generally.

We are not 100% together all the time cornets. Focus on that pulse!

Horns, you make a lovely sound! People need to hear it!!

Cornets, in the higher register, just focus on making the tone as warm as the middle and low register, it gets slightly screechy.

You keep excitement levels well, and the music has drive! The end was enigmatic!

Overall performance. You have the makings of a fine band. I would have loved to have heard greater dynamic contrast, tighter ensemble playing and slightly more secure intonation. Well done euphonium soloist, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Horns, you have a nice section sound, so be confident and blow more!

Thank you.

15.40 Valdres Brass Band

Milestone

This is a controlled opening. Horns, lovely, if a bit shy! The music has, drive and control in equal measure. The time changes are seamless. Cornets listen to your intonation, especially on open notes (E2 for example)

16th notes in euphoniums and basses could be clearer (some bluff in there maybe)

Horns please sing out more!

I feel the sound is slightly one dimensional at times. Maybe try to approach the calmer section with a rounder and sound.

16th notes in cornets are not as clear as I would like, and I can hear the odd wrong note, and straining in the higher register from various sections.

A few splits here and there.

On My Own

Breathe together, play together would be a great mantra at the beginning. Nice horn soloist, the intonation between him and the band is not 100% however. Band, you are maybe a touch loud in places. I feel the B section could have a little agitato leading into a more declarative repeat of the A section.

Intonation in the band is still not excellent, and I feel I hear some wrong notes.

Band, when you play the melody, I cannot hear the soloist at all.

Soloist, very well done. Not an easy solo to play well. You did. A little more emotion from band and soloist would have secured the deal.

Ruby Tuesday

A declarative opening, with a good level of ensemble.

I see this piece as a horn feature (maybe because I am a horn player myself!) Horns, I would love to hear more in places. Good solo horn in your solo passages. Well supported by 1st and 2nd, but I just want more of it!!!

Nearly, bass! A bit more air would have fixed it.

I struggle to hear 16th notes that move through the band (they lack clarity)

Euphoniums well attempted 16ths. Good Soprano, just a slight glitch at the end.

I feel the band is tiring somewhat. Try to keep the drive you had at the beginning of the piece.

Listen to intonation horns, especially on that C3! (Easy to say, I know!)

Overall performance. There was some fine playing here. You have a good band sound, and play at a high standard. Usual suspects of balance, intonation and the odd split, wrong note here and there. But a good overview!

Thank you

Salen Hornorkester Halden

Festival March

This has drive and control. A lovely band sound, intonation is generally good up to now! Full of dynamic contrast. I could do with more horns please.

Cornets, you have a fine sound, but be careful not to get too direct and hard in the higher register.

Trombones, you play well together, with good balance.

Horns, again you play well, but I would love to hear more of it. Listen to intonation between solo horn and flugel.

This moves on nicely, with plenty of excitement, and you have a tight ensemble to the most part.

Some slight errors in the last few bars, but very well delivered. You have focussed on the basics here. And it paid off.

On With The Motley

Listen to intonation on that first chord, band, especially those with mutes. This is fine soprano playing, with plenty of control.

Band, I think you need to work on your production in the quieter dynamics. Listen to the intonation, especially the 3rd of the chord.

Powerful stuff from the soprano.

Well done soloist. Band you were nearly there, but intonation and some wrong notes marred it a bit.

O Take My Hand

Lovely solo cornet. Horns lovely sound too, a very unified section. The unusual chords are tackled well .

Listen to the melody over the moving 8th notes. I feel the melody is slightly behind. The moving 8ths provide a good metronome.

A nice middle of the band sound. Some intonation issues from low horns or baritones in places.

More air flugel, and that would have been nice.

Some lovely rich sounds being produced here. Just be sure this warmness is consistent throughout the dynamic range. Louder sections are somewhat strained. Especially in cornets.

Nice character, very reflective playing.

Valero

This has good style and movement. Basses I feel your line could have slightly more breadth.

Flugel comes over well and the solo is played securely, good dynamic from band. Watch your intonation in places flugel. Otherwise well done.

The syncopated rhythms are tight.

A mispitch in the last chord but this was securely played. Watch your intonation in sharp keys.

Overall, a varied program that showed off many aspects of your bands strengths. A great sop soloist. Intonation and slight harshness of sound in louder dynamics were my main gripes. There was much to enjoy here.

Horns you have a great section sound that is very unified, and you compliment each other well. I would just like more of it!

Thank you.
